HAWAIIAN T-SHIRT - DIGITAL MEDIA

INTRODUCTION:

For this project, we were asked to design a Hawaiian themed t-shirt using adobe illustrator, to be displayed on the wall in our school.

MATERIALS:

Since this project was made through a computer program, I'll list the tools and apps used to complete this assignment.

Apple Laptop, Adobe Illustrator, (On Adobe Illustrator), Template Tool, Selection Tool, Pen Tool, Curvature Tool, Layers, Polygon Tool, Shape Builder Tool, Ellipse Tool, Colour Panel, Stroke, Fill, Pattern Tool, Line Segment Tool, Rectangle Tool, Text Tool.

CREATIVE PROCESS:

Coming up with my t-shirt, I wanted to make it different from the typical Hawaiian flower shirt, so I came up with ideas like using purple as my primary colour and have yellow flowers around it. I liked this idea because I love the colour purple and purple and yellow have an amazing contrast.
PRODUCTION METHOD:

After I got all my ideas together, I opened up Adobe Illustrator on my laptop to get started on the project. First I copied the example Hawaiian shirt and made it into a template on Illustrator. After dimming it to 50%, I used the Pen Tool to trace the "sewing lines" on the borders of the shirt to get it started. After having a complete outline of my t-shirt, I got rid of the template and started filling my shirt with purple, and changed some of the line thicknesses to make it more bold. After having completed that, I created layers so I could add a pattern to my shirt without removing the purple colour I just placed on it. While creating my pattern, I didn't want to use a typical Hawaiian flower so I  created my own type of flower using the Ellipse Tool and Pen Tool. After applying my pattern to the new layer, I just grabbed the Ellipse Tool again and made 3 little buttons for the shirt , and used the Eraser Tool to put holes in them to make them seem more like buttons. Finally, I used the Rectangle Tool, Gradient Tool, and Type Tool to complete a label for my shirt.
CONCLUSION:

To conclude this project, I really enjoyed participating in this project, I learned a lot about Adobe Illustrator after the fact, and It definitely helped me improve in future assignments and tasks. This one didn't turn out great, I didn't know how to properly use the Pen tool to trace at the time, which is why my shirt isn't even, I should have made the pattern smaller, and I didn't know how to make the inside of the shirt collar to seem more faded than the rest of the shirt. But besides these mistakes, I learned a lot and if I were to get a second chance at this project, it would definitely come out twice as good.
